Car Alarms: 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan xlt, dodge grand caravan, 2005 dodge grand caravan

Question
Morning,

I am a happy return customer, I purchased a Commando alarm/remote starter from you in 2001.  It was my first install and it was rough ... Installed on a 2001 chrysler voyager.  You were on the phone with me a few times and we got it working, I still owe you thanks for that.

Question is, I just purchased another caravan which has a key fob with six buttons; power hatch, power left sliding door, power right sliding door, lock, unlock and panic.    My wife is spoiled and says she can't live without the remote start.  The van has a factory installed security system with starter disable.  Is there an alarm or remote start out there that has a key fob that can handle all those functions and tie into the currrent alarm or bypass it?
I have gone through your site and have seen a few key fobs with 5 buttons and 3 or 4 channels?  I am not sure but guess that the channels are the number of buttons?

Thanks again for any help you can give with this next project.

Answer
Boy you are a glutton for punishment huh? LOL
God forbid you should get a simpler vehicle to
install an aftermarket system in. The short
answer is no, nothing I have would completely
replace all the functions, plus remote start.

The only solution I could suggest here is a basic
remote start system, with it's own remote and
isolate the 2 systems completely.

The systems on the site at www.CARALARMZ.com
are pretty thorough, but Chrysler has
again gone out of the way to screw with the
aftermarket! The trouble comes in on the sliding
doors. They have latched relays, and do require
that remote to do them. To do them aftermarket
would require extensive, and expensive relay and
wiring applications. Even I would not attempt that
with this equipment. Just not enough umph to
make them work.

My choice then is the GALAXY-Astra 1000RS.
Cool little system with 2500 feet of range,
and a pager to tell here what's going on
with it. Plus of course, a transmod bypass for
the ignition. Now unfortunately here's another
problem. If you get a universal bypass module,
you loose one of those fancy shmancy keys to
the box. If you get the "keyless" transmod bypass
for this vehicle, it's 67.00 just for that piece.
No real bargain either way, but the second option
would be cheeper then to "gicie up" a key. Those
must run about 140. to 180. to replace.

But if I have'nt talked you out of this yet,
let me know, and we'll get you set up with what's
needed here, and get you started.
