Nissan Repair: 2003 Nissan Sentra Hesitating, nissan sentra, pressure and volume

Question
My 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8 is hesitating when I accelerate.  It usually starts to happen when I get the car up to about 40kph and it chugs almost like it's running out of gas.  We have had problems with the gas lines since we bought the car new 5 years ago, with an ill fitting gas cap triggering a sensor for air in the fuel line.  The car started having the current issue this week but when I took it into a service center they said that it was the timing chain.  Have you heard of this problem before and is it possible it's the fuel lines?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Dan -

Before we condemn the timing chain (I doubt if that is the problem), I would check the fuel pump. Sounds like in times of demand it is starving for gas.

The fuel pump should be tested both for pressure and volume, and is located in the fuel tank.

Hope this helps -
