Car Stereos: double din, lincoln town car, double din head unit


Question
is it possible to install the pioneer avh-p3100 in a 98 lincoln town car, and if not i know there has to be some kind of special modification i can do to get it in there. Let me know............

Hi Willis,

I haven't personally tried to install a double-DIN head unit into one of these vehicles, so I'm not sure what you're likely to run into.  If I recall correctly, the air vent runs behind and above the radio cavity, and might limit the clearance, especially at the top.  You might be able to use a heat gun to bend the vent wall and make some more room; or cut out the vent and re-seal it with duct tape.   The front dash opening will need to be enlarged slightly to let you fit the Pioneer head unit in, and you'll need to find some way to secure it in place.

Unfortunately, I'd probably need to inspect one of these vehicles again before I could give you an idea how difficult this project will be.  Just going from memory, I'm pretty certain that it's possible; but it will definitely require some pretty extensive modification of the dash cavity.
