Car Stereos: Left front speakers on Jeep Cherokee, radio cd cassette, jeep cherokee

Question
1999 Jeep Cherokee with factory installed stereo radio/CD/cassette (Infinity). No sound from either front left door mounted woofer or tweeter (separate speakers). Normal sound from front right pair and left & right rear speakers. I removed front left speakers and tested with independent audio source.  Woofer sounds fine.  Tweeter gave no sound and ohmmeter check read infinity/no connection. This seems to indicate tweeter is blown (but I can’t see damage due to limited view through grill of small plastic door piece it is mounted in).  Question: Why don’t I hear any sound from left front woofer in car since it tested good? Will woofer produce sound in car if I buy replacement left front tweeter?

Answer
Tom,

Usually, this problem occurs, because the driver's door is used the most.  The speaker wire that powers the woofer and tweeter goes through the door jam.  With that moving part, the wire wears in a certain spot and shorts out.  The wire will need to be replaced, before the speaker will work properly.  Hope this helps, Scott
