Car Stereos: Installing Subs, infinity basslink, rear speakers

Question
Scott.  I just bought a 2003 Maxima that does not have a Bose system installed.  Can I install a sub on the back panal like a Bose system does? I dont want a box in my trunk, I was hoping to keep it system. I dont want to have to run all sorts of wires to and from an amp, it is possible to just wire the sub to the radio it self?    Any input will be a big help.  Thanks

Answer
David, Unfortunately, subs require additional power.  If you did wire in a new sub to your system, the sub would not be very loud compared to the rear speakers.  My suggestion would be all included powered subwoofer enclosure such as the Infinity Basslink.  It will take up a small amount of space in the trunk, but installation is fairly simple and can be done for a minimal charge at your local stereo shop.  Additionally, on adding just a sub.  Whenever you start adding speakers to a system, and splicing into existing wires, you change the resistance of the system, so some speakers' resistance may be raised or lowered.  With raised or lowered resistance, the loudness will change, so some speakers are twice as loud as other speakers, and it puts a strain on the stereo causing it to ultimately short out.  Hope this helps, Scott
