Car Stereos: stereo volume, stock speakers, stock stereo

Question
Is it bad turn the volume of the stereo of a car all the way up? If so, what is the highest you can without damaging?

Answer
Alex,
It all depends. If it's the stock stereo it's probably alright it'll just sound really bad. If it's an aftermarket CD player with stock speakers it will definately hurt your speakers if not blow them. Aftermarket CD players can put out an average of 40 watts per channel. most stock speakers can only handle an average of 10 watts. you can do the math. When it starts to distort and crackle just turn it down 2 notches and that should be a good volume setting.
