BMW Repair: 1995 BMW 325is Coupe Driver seat, 1995 bmw 325is, bmw 325is

Question
I took my BMW to a BMW shop regarding my driver seat.  The seat moves front back but doesn't move up down. I was told that the power seat motor was no good. How many motors does my seat have? Can i replace motor(s)instead of the whole seat. what about the seat having a broken gear, drive cables, or motor trans cable. I spent $200.00  for this check. I wasn't satisfied with the mechanic and I and went to talk to another BMW repair shop to asked some more questions, this where I found out there are more than motor under the seat. again the mechanic told me that i have to leave the car so that they check the problem with seat. I will have to pay AGAIN to have this done. I want to know what other options i have, possible motor parts that are replacable.I don't want to be taken I can't afford it.  Oh, my seat right now falls all the way back, i presently have something behind the seat to hold it up. Please advise.

Answer
When I first started reading your question I thought for sure I would have a totally positive answer for you.But by the time I finished reading I had to read it again. There are multiple motors under the seat that work the seat in all of the directions. You asked if you can buy separate motors that question I am not sure. The motors are part of the frame work and I am not sure if it is a serviceable part. You may have to buy the whole power seat assembly.
A salvage yard that has BMW's is where I would go to first. There are many 3 series and the years are many as well. You might be better off buying another seat.If the seat doesn't match the motors(power seat part)is what you can change over alot cheaper than buying the new motors.
This comes to the last part of your question. You had to prop up the back of the seat.So the side gears of the seat are broken, loose or not there. This is where buying another seat would be the best idea. Also I would recommend a Bentley manual it will help with the power seat.
