BMW Repair: Gear Problem, shift linkage, rubber washer

Hi Josh, While accelerating I shifted to 2nd gear and then tried to shift out but it was stuck in second. The clutch still worked so I stopped and pushed really hard and got the car out of gear. Now I have all gears but can't get into second(makes really nasty cog on cog noise). Any ideas what I have to do? (it felt as if a rubber washer has shifted or something)

 I'm not sure of what kind of BMW you have, but you should make sure the shift linkage is working correctly.  It should be since you can get the tranny into 1st and 3rd gears but no second.

 It sounds to me that 2nd gear has gone out.  You will probably have to get the tranny rebuilt to fix this.
