Audio Systems: Cracking Speakers, voice coils, speaker repair

Question
I have Pathfinder 2001 with CD Player. It was working perfectly. 6 months back little craking started when i used to increase the Bass. And now the music system sounds like an old radio. lot of craking from the speakers. And the Full volume has also dropped. Please help.

Answer
Sounds like the voice coils have come loose from the coil forms. This is usually caused by long-term overpowering with bass energy.

The cure is to have them repaired or replaced. If they are expensive speakers you can send them into a speaker repair place and they will rebuild the voice coils. If not expensive speakers they will need to just be replaced.

BUT: If you have doubts, run  it into a local install/repair shop and they can confirm this diagnosis in moments.  Loose voice coils are very easy to detect by those who are familiar with the sound of them.
