Cadillac Repair: northstar 4.6 performance chip, cadillac lover, head gaskets

QUESTION: What would be the advantages and potential disadvantages of putting a performance chip in my northstar? I've not been able to find answers so i thought I'd ask someone who knows caddys. Thanks~James

ANSWER: Your fuel mileage will decrease 3 to 4 miles per gallon and it will not give you any noticeable engine performance.

A TOTAL waste of money.

QUESTION: Thanks for your time and you last answer. It is a great aid to me as a cadillac lover. What about adding a shift kit? I've heard it can actually be better for your tranny? Whats the truth? If u have any suggestion for increasing speed and acceleration in a 4.6 northstar i'm all ears1 thanks!

The main problem with Cadillacs is that they have, In my personal and professional expertise and opinion, Any more stress you put on this engine will cause it's demise as they are well known for blowing head gaskets.

I rebuilt many older and new Cadillac transmissions with shift kits and I warn everyone in WRITING on the repair slip that engine and or transmission failure may occur after installation of this shift kit because the manufacturer did NOT design the engines or transmissions to be altered in any manner or fashion.

It is totally up to you.
