Cadillac Repair: 94 cadillac concours wont start., negative battery cable, jumper cables

Question
my 94 concours wouldnt turn over. i hooked it up to jumper cables and it would then turn and click. i hooked it up to a battery booster box and it would start. when i would accelarate, the dash lights would flicker and die. if i pushed the brakes while the flickering was going on, the lights would come back on and the air would kick on. any idea what is wrong? no check engine light either.

Answer
Hi Steven,

Kind of sounds like a ground problem to me. if you had some work done and recently and then this problem happened then I would look around where the work was done for a loose wire or connector.

Other things to check are that both battery cables are clean and tight at the battery. It would be a good idea to remove both cables and see if any of the cable ends are blueish green from a leaking battery. If they are then they need to be cleaned or replaced and the battery replaced at the same time.

Also where the negative battery cable attaches to the engine near the RH side of the radiator it likes to come loose. Make sure it is clean and tight.

If nothing has shown up then I would go to your mechanic with the Caddy and have them test the battery, starter and alternator and see if anything shows up.

If they all test good then maybe through some testing they will be able to discover where the problem might be. Hopefully I have been some help. Bill
