Cadillac Repair: 1991Cadillac Deville Blower Problem, climate control system, purple wire

Question
I've had the car for about 9 months and the mileage is 130,000. Up until yesterday the climate control system has worked perfect. When I now hit the Econ or Auto switch I can hear the same sounds that come on before the blower would come on but now the blower does not come on.

I checked the blower fuse ( found under the dash passanger side with the aid of the owner's manual ) and found that it was good. I then tried disconnecting the negative cable from the battery for 10 minutes & reconnecting it to see if that might cause something to "reset"?

That didn't fix the problem. What should I check next? If it turns out to be the blower, is that a part easily accessible?

Answer
Hi Anthony, The blower motor is located under the hood in the center below the windshield. Getting to it isn't too difficult but some things need to be removed before the blower can be replaced. Test the blower motor for battery voltage on the big purple wire and that the ground wire is ok. Then try jumpering a wire from the battery to the battery terminal on the motor with the ground wire hooked up. If it works now you will need a new blower motor and power module. The module is located on the passenger side at the top of the blower houseing and will have 2 wire connectors comming from it. If you just replace the module then the old motor will cause the new module to burn out very quickly. If the motor still doesn't work but you are getting battery voltage on the purple wire at the motor you might get lucky and just replace the blower motor and everything will be ok. Hope that makes sense. Bill
