Chevrolet Repair: 2001 Malibu - Power locks activate alarm, power locks, repair knowledge

Question
Hello!

After replacing the battery in my 2001 Malibu, I am now unable to use the power locks. I am able to unlock all the doors with the power locks, but I can't use the power locks to lock all the doors again. The reason? Locking my doors with the power locks sets off my car alarm.

I purchased the car used and was not given the remotes to shut off the alarm, so the only way I can deactivate the alarm is to start the vehicle. For now, I've settled for removing the fuse for the horn so at least I'm not embarrassed by the extremely loud alarm. Also, this is the *only* thing that sets off the alarm in the vehicle.

My question is this--is this something simple I can fix myself with limited vehicle repair knowledge or should I leave this to the professionals?

I greatly appreciate any guidance you can give. Thank you so much for your help!

Answer
It sounds as if yo have an after market alarm installed.  Common issue pertaining to this when you replace the battery for the car.  If you don't have the remotes, you will need to remove the system completely. There sound be a valet switch under the dash so you can disable for the time being.   It is usually a black push button that you hold for one second turn the ignition on engine off and release.  If it is the toggle switch just flip the switch
Wish I could be more helpful but without the remotes is near impossible
