Chevrolet Repair: 1995 4x4 not engaging, chevy pickup, floor shift

I have a 1995 4x4 chevy pickup that will not engage into 4 wheel suddenly. what can i check myself. this model has the floor shift with the lights that light up when engaged. i had no warning of a problem. i checked the gear oil and the bulbs. all good.

I see that first link doesn't work. Delete it and replace it with this one, which is the same company.
