Question
I am trying to locate and recharge the A/C system i cannot find the lower service connector to hook up the hose I am wondering if you could point me in the right direction. On a 2001 Chrysler 300m

Answer
Hi Tom.
The low pressure service port according to both the '98 and '04 manuals I have is on the compressor and it is the one that is closest to the drive belt pulley. I am not familiar with the exact set up at the port (threaded fitting choices/ control valves if any?) but I believe if you find a fitting that mates with your hose and that fitting is like a tire's valve (e.g. attaching the fitting opens the valve) then that would be where to add refrigerant. Of course you have to have the adapter attached to the can of refrigerant, and only after the hose is hooked up would you puncture the can. I believe too that you first hook of the hose loosely to the low port, then puncture the can, then slowly open the valve at the can to bleed some refrigerant into the hose and allow it to leak out the loose fitting at the low pressure port and, once you have thus driven out any air in the hose, then cinch the connector firmly to the port and finally open the valve at the can fully. And the engine and compressor should be running at the time you do all this. But read the instructions that came with the 'add refrigerant kit' rather than trust me...I am a relative neophyte in AC systems. If the system is completely empty and in fact may have atmospheric air in it, then it is not a good idea to try and re-charge but rather you would have to evacuate it first using a vacuum pump.
