Chrysler Repair: 2000 Intrepid SE: power windows dead, continuity tester, amp breaker

Question
QUESTION: Hi
all four of my electric windows in my 2000 Chrysler Intrepid SE quit working.
It is not the fuse in the dash nor do I see a fuse under the hood for windows.  any suggestions

ANSWER: Hi James,
The power for the windows comes from a circuit breaker located just in front of the fuses on the junction block at the left end of the dash. It is a 20 amp breaker, the upper one of the two breakers and may be labelled CB1. So try resetting that and see what happens.

QUESTION: I replaced that silver 20 amp breaker and it did not help. You mentioned re setting.  How is that done.
If it is not that what else could it be?

Answer
Hi James,
Circuit breakers often have a lever that moves back and forth, so that when it 'opens' the lever is found in the disconnect position and you move the lever to the 'closed' position to "reset" it. Sometime the automatically reset if the short that caused it to open is fixed. I don't know exactly how yours works.  If that is not the case then with a voltmeter or 12V test light I would verify that I have 12V on one side or the other of the socket into which the circuit breaker fits (after removing the circuit breaker) when the ignition switch is in the 'run' position. And verify with an ohmmeter or continuity tester that the circuit breaker is "closed" and actually conducts current. If that appears to be correct, then find a 16 pin plug-together disconnect at the door pillar where a tan wire on pin 10 should show 12V when the ignition is in the 'run' position, and a black wire on pin 14 should show a ground connection to any shiney piece of body structural metal (0 ohms resistance). You can use fine pins to probe thru the insulation to reach the conductor inside each wire.  If both those checks show as stated, then either the flexible wire that goes into the door from pin 10 or pin 14 is 'open' due to flexing or there is a problem with the master power window switch itself. The only way to tell which would be to take off the inner panel of the door to check the same wires at that master switch. That is a multi-step process that I can tell you more about after you verify the above wiring is OK.
Sorry to assign you the extra work but that is how you have to go about solving this.
