Chrysler Repair: Chrysler 300 2007 engine wont warm up, 4 digit numbers, coolant temperature

Question
At stop lights the engine flutters, she has stalled completely once.  Hear a squealing sound, depending on temp will depend on the acceleration it's heard at.  Usually 50 km is when it starts.  Dealers don't know what the problem is and said keep it at home while they research the problem and they'll get back to me.  Also I've noticed the engine temp dial will start to go up but then drop down to C.  The air does not get hot and the temp in the vehicle does not warm up. It stays almost cool.

Answer
Hi Tia,
The squealing may be a warn accessory drive belt, or a too loose belt. On the fluttering at stop lights, the best approach to that would be to get a fault code readout from an Autozone parts store (often they do that for free) or at an independent shop (who should charge no more than $40 for that readout). Ask for the specific fault codes which are 4-digit numbers, what they mean, what should be done and for how much. Then write back and we can compare what you were told against the official manual. On the engine temp not staying above C and the lack of heat, that is probably due to a thermostat being stuck open which prevents the coolant temperature from rising. To change the thermostat the alternator and its drive belt have to be taken off in order to then remove the hoses at the thermostat housing and then the housing itself. You would want to drain and collect the coolant before taking off the hoses.

PS Sorry for the delay as you question was referred to the pool where I noticed it.
