Answer
Hi Aaron,
Have you checked to see if you have spark? Pull a plug and ground its shell to the block and have a helper crank the engine over while you watch for spark. Is the plug wet when you take it out, which would verify fuel pump function? Let me know which engine you are working with.
You may nonetheless have to borrow or buy a code reader. But it may be the case that basic fault codes will appear in the odometer window if you turn the ignition:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. The codes have four digits and would replace the mileage reading momentarily if this is the case. Otherwise a plug in reader that goes into the socket under the dash to the left of the steering wheel will be necessary to get any codes.
