Chrysler Repair: Oil Light & Overheat indication, oil pressure gauge, oil pressure sender

Question
2000 Town & Country. At speed (not idling) I heard a dinging sound. I looked down to see the oil light on and the temp guage overheating. I pulled over and checked the oil which was fine. I restarted the car and the temp was fine as well. This has happened several times since. Any idea???

Answer
Hi Bob,
You didn't tell me which engine you have, but it is possible that there is some air in the cooling system that is causing a transitory high reading. Was any work on the cooling system done? Are you having to add coolant? Let me know.
The oil pressure could be real or false. The pressure will drop as the engine temp rises, so this is a possibility if you are getting overheated. If you aren't burning/using oil then I think you need to have the oil pressure measured with a calibrated gauge. There is a spec for each engine but it is generally around 35 minimum PSI at 3,000 rpm with the engine warm and 6 psi at idle. Perhaps the oil pressure sender is inaccurate, or you could have a problem with the oil pump or a clogged intake in the oil pan. So that would be a good check to do. Is there an oil pressure gauge on your dash and if so how does it read?
