-----Question-----
my 1994 Lebanon 3.0 is reading coed 54. do i need to change the sensor or is it trying to tell me something? it keeps dyeing when i slow down or stop. any ideas
-----Answer-----
Hi Christy,
Check the two wire plugs that come out of the distributor to begin with. If they are both tight and you see no damage to the wires, then it probably means that the double photooptic sensor unit inside the distributor is failing. The cam timing is what synchronizes the injector pulses. It it quite easy to change it out yourself. Rotor is held in place by a screw on its side. You don't need to remove the distributor to change it, and that too would avoid any issue with the position/timing of the distributor.
So that is probably the way to go. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Christy,
Sorry to throw you a curve. Another more generic name is the "Distributor Pick-up" or "Distributor Sensor" unit. It is what I described it to be (photooptic rather than the more common Hall-effect sensor type), but evidentally not known unless you are familiar with the finer points. It is the only replaceable part inside the distributor (other than the rotor) so I assumed everyone would know what it was. Let me know if you need a page or two on replacing it and I can type in the text, or postal mail you the pages along with the illustrations.

Answer
Hi Christy,
That is nice of you to offer, but I will be pleased to send the pages without compensation. Occasionally someone I send copies to will send me some unused stamps so it all works out. Just use the "thank and rate" where there is a space for comments where you can leave your postal mailing address. I think you can replace the pick-up unit without removing the distributor, so think along those lines, and simply keep track of the screws as you go along and make notes on the drawings of things to do when you then reassemble.
