Chrysler Repair: Replacing Air Filter, haynes manual, chrysler intrepid

Question
I have a 96 Chrysler Intrepid 3.3L with 326,00kms. Mr. Lube wants to charge me $19.99 for a new engine air filter. I've put it off 2 or 3 times now and finally went out to Canadian Tire and picked up one for $6.93. Just wanna know exactly how I should install it? There are 3 screws it appears and then the cover is attached to the pipe which leads to the engine which is connected with a black plastic tie-strap.

Answer
Hi John,
You have it pretty much "in hand" according to the Haynes manual for the 3.3/3.5 engine that I have. Just remove the screws and if necessary disconnect the air hose (these hoses sometimes get inflexible and will crack if you put any significant bend upon them) unless you can slip out the old and put in the new without stressing it. It is good to wipe out the inside of the housing if you can get access with the hose still attached, or take off the hose and then you can really clean it out. Be careful not to drop any thing into the housing so that nothing will subsequently get sucked thruough the hose and into the engine.
An ideal do-it-yourself task!
