Ford Repair: ford focus, coolant level, heater core

my wife focus is constantly going into the red and stays there for quite some time could it be time for a new thermostat? and it has a syrup smell to it could that be the heater core

Antifreeze can put off a smell similar to syrup.Look under the passenger side floor mat for moisture/antifreeze.Is you're coolant level low.If you answer yes to any of these questions than it is very possible that you have a busted heater core.Don't let that temperature get up too high for you're own sake.It definitely requires some attention.
