Ford Repair: 1992 f350 dual tanks, haynes repair manual, inertia switch

Question
I have a 1992 ford f350 with dual tanks and my forward tank doesn't work. I tried some of the troublshooting tips from haynes repair manual. I selected the forward tank from the select switch and didn't here any "whirring" noise from the pump. It also tells me to check the inertia switch underneath the drivers side dash next to the brake pedal. I couldn't find it. Could you tell me exactly where it's at and does this switch have reset button? Is this a common problem? Thanks.

Answer
Jaime, if the inertia switch is tripped you would not have either fuel pump working. How about the gauge, does the guage read fuel level on both tanks? If so it could be a fuel pump issue.

The next thing you could do is use a test light to check for voltage at each pump, or you can do this at the switch. Check for voltage to the fuel pump on each side of the switch, should be a pink wire w/black stripe, although Ford did use some other colors. The fuel pump will be the thicker wire as in lower guage compared to the fuel gauge sender circuit.

The problem is most likely the switch or the fuel pump, especially if the other tank works.
