Ford Repair: 1998 Explorer Rear Rotors, rear rotors, brake shoes

Question
I cannot remove the rear rotors on my '98 Explorer. I have removed calipers and loosened the rotor to about about 1/4" play all the way around, but it just won't go any further. Do I need to release something else, praking brake etc.? Thanks for your help.

Answer
The parking brake is inside the rotor, so yo have to release park brake. Shoes might be too tight or sticking to rotor. There are also stuck cables on many Explorers, especially in areas of winter snow. If a cable is stuck, the park brake could be on even tho you have released the pedal. In some cases you may have to back off the park brake shoe adjustment, which is done from the back side thru a slot.
