Ford Repair: 96 Ford Explorer Power Window, silicone lubricant, gear set

Question
I did not see any belts, but I am not sure.  Would I be able to see a belt in clear view if there was one?  I am thinking gear because when I had it apart I would move the window up and down and I could see a fan shaped metal tooth object moving up and down.

Thank you!----------

Thank you for such a quick response.  I did take the door panel off and it is on track.  The motor is trying to work, but it's just not working.  It's trying still and when I push or pull the window it works.  I read something about a gear regulator (or something like that, I couldn't figure out where that would be or even how to get to it.  Even with the door panel off and the speaker removed, work space is teensy.  Do you have any guidence or suggestions?

Question -
I have a 96 Ford Explorer.  The driver side window is "I think" off the track.  I can hear the motor working and it will go down,  but going up I have to give it a push.  I have never taken the door panel off and was just curious if there was anything I could damage or anything I should be careful about?  Does my problem sound like its off track or could it be something else?

Thank You.

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I can't and won't comment on if it sounds as if it off the track or not. I haven't seen it. IF it is off the track you will have to remove the door panel and reinstall it in the correct position. When doing this, make sure that all of the tracks are in proper position and have all of their bols for holding them in place......in place.

is this a belt driven window set up or is it a motor that is attatched to a gear set up? You might want to try spraying silicone lubricant in the window tracks.

Answer
yup-it's a gear set up------in that case I would suggest that you replace the motor. The brushes are most likely worn and the motor is tired. When it is moving the window to the down position it is using the window's weight to help it. When it is going up.......that's where the problem is.
