Honda Repair: timing belt/tensioner, timing belt tensioner, honda passport

Question
Chris,
We had the timing belt replaced 1 year ago, with 197606 miles on our 1994 Honda Passport 4wd vehicle.  Our last belt was installed at 105702 miles and included the instalation of the tensioner.

We have driven our car 30,000 miles with the new belt and on Dec. 23rd the tensioner went out and ruined the motor.  Two weeks before we had the power steering belt. The milage is now 230,000 miles.

My question is:  is it protical when changing the timing belt to also change the tensioner at the same time?  And if the power steering belt was not adjusted properly, could it effect the tensioner?

Do you have recommendation as to the most reasonable way to replace the motor and what we should be aware of as we talk  to the mechanics in our area?

Thank you so much for your prompt reply and your willingness to give your input.

Answer
IF THE POWER STEERING BELT WAS NOT PROPERLY ADJUSTED IT WILL TEND TO RUIN OTHER THINGS AROUND IT LIKE THE TENSIONER WHEN CHANGING THE TIMING BELT ITS NOT REALLY RECOMMENDED YOU CHANGE THE TENSIONER I HAVEN'T HAD TO CHANGE MINE AND IVE REPLACED MY TIMING BELT TWICE DUE TO IT SNAPPING ONCE SO YOU REALLY DON'T NEED A NEW TENSIONER JUST THE BELT.
