Hyundai Repair: 2000 Hyundai Elantra Auto door locks work intermittantly, hyundai elantra, 2000 hyundai elantra

Question
Hi there,

i have a 2000 hyundai Elantra and with auto door locks that are only working intermittently-Sometimes they work fine with the key and manually locking from inside the car and sometimes they don't work at all and i have to manually lock each door separately.  Is this related to a poor battery or an electrical problem.

Answer
Hi, Amyn.

If your battery is strong enough to start the car, then it's not weak enough to cause a door lock issue.

In this case, you should primarily suspect the issue is with the driver's door lock actuator.  Contained within this actuator are switches which, when the door is locked or unlocked, send signals to an integrated circuit (also in the door lock actuator), which in turn operates a relay (which is also in the actuator).  As the vast majority of components which could fail intermittently and cause your issue are in the driver's door lock actuator, I'd recommend replacing that actuator.
