Hyundai Repair: 1992 hyundia excell, coolant temperature sensor, air flow sensor

Question
QUESTION: hi ihave a problem with my car it is showing codes #12 13 15 21 25 i changed the mass air an the temp control thermostat it reads minus 44 degrees running very rich an when i applly my brake pedle i hear a clicking sound in my computer can u help me have another computer on its way could that b the anser thanks clint

ANSWER: Most likely, you have a bad splice in the ground circuit to these sensors.  They all ground through the engine control module (ECM), but also all ground through one splice in the harness on the way to the ECM.  The ground splice problem is common in 2000-2004 Excels.

It would be my recommendation to register for an account at www.hmaservice.com, read TSB (technical service bulletin) 93-36-007 (in the fuel section), and follow the repair procedure (soldering the splice) contained within.  Although it only refers to code 15, if you look at the schematic (in the ETM section of the site), you'll see that the other trouble codes you have all refer to components that ground through the splice referenced in the bulletin.

If my memory is correct, you'll find the splice about six to eight inches away from the ECM connectors.  You'll need to unplug the ECM and untape the harness to locate it.  If you have difficulty working under the dash, you can pull the harness through the firewall and work on it in the engine bay.

For your reference, the trouble codes indicate bad readings from the following:
12: Air flow sensor
13: Air temperature sensor (part of air flow sensor)
15: Motor position sensor/idle actuator
21: Coolant temperature sensor
25: Barometric pressure sensor (part of air flow sensor)

QUESTION: thank u very much for ur in fo but i still have the problem i did take the wire harrnes down n could not find the fuseable link i allso have a promblem now that when i turn the haedlite switch on it kills the engine i should have another ecm tomarro to try any other thing that i should try to solve my problem i checked my ground wires on the firewall n battery along with the ground wires on the right fender they all seamed ok still at a lost anything else that mite come to ur mind that would help would greatly app. thanks clint

Answer
This is not a fusible link; it's a crimp where about six black wires come together.  You will need to find this splice and solder it as it's the most likely cause of this issue.  If necessary, follow the wires from pins 13 and 23 of connector C50-1.  To assist in this, you can view the electrical schematic in the ETM (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) section of the website.
