Jeep Repair: Jeep Grand Cherokee - Alarm system, jeep grand cherokee, neutral safety switch

Question
Thanks for the reply and of course I understand where you are coming from.  Let me make it more simple because I am really desperate to find out what the problem is, yet can't get it towed for a diagnosis.

When I turn the key nothing happens.  It doesn't turn over (which leads me to belive it might be the solenoid or starter motor - hence why I thought the alarm system might have triggered this).  I tried jumping it, wondering if it was the battery, but that didn't work.  The lights are functioning as is the radio, so that definitely rules out the battery.  It doesn't feel like anything is grabbing when I turn the key, so the ignition cylinder could be a possibility, but I am inclined to say no to that as well.

I have read a few other things online that could be possibilities, one being the neutral safety switch.  Any ideas?  Please let me know if you need any further details.

Thanks in advance for your assistnce

I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee that won't start.  In an attempt to have it towed this morning from a tight parallel parked space, the tow truck driver thought the reason it may not start would be due to the alarm system disabling the starter.  The only way I know to disable the alarm is by unlocking the door manuakly with a key rather than the keyless entry.  My question is this a possibility for the car not starting?  Is there a manual over-ride switch for the alarm?  Do you have any other ideas for getting the car started, as I can't have it towed to be repaired until I get the car out of the parallel parked space!  It is indeed an exascerbating situation I find myself in.

Your assitance and insight is greatly appreciated!

This is a Jeep service department question.  I don't get into alarm system questions for obvious reasons, sorry!

Answer
Not knowing what make or model of alarm system you have, it's impossible, even if I wanted to, to tell you how to reactivate the ignition kill feature of that alarm system.  You should have a manual on your system that explains what to do if the system is activated and the ignition disabled (if indeed this is the problem).
If the alarm system did not kill the ignition, then the ignition switch is probably bad and the only way you are ever going to know what the problem is have it towed to a mechanic try to solve it.
