Land Rover Repair: 3.9 for 4.0 engine swap - is it possible?, engine management system, salvage yard

Hello, I got LR Discovery 1995, 3.9 V8 and also a Disco 96 with 4.0. The question is can I put the 3.9 on the 96 since the 4.0 has a bad engine and the 3.9 has a bad body and bend frame. Swap 4.0 96 for the 3.9 95.

Hi Denis,

I think you'd have trouble doing this.  The '96 has a differnent engine management system, unless you also swap in all the sensors and ecu.  That may mean doing lots of electrical.

Why not offer to sell the '95 or swap it for the engine you want?  Maybe a salvage yard could arrange something like this?

Try www.car-part.com and search for the engine you want.  Contact them and see if they'd make a 'deal'.  Might work.

At least if you swap in a 4.0 to replace the original, you may avoid all the sensor and ecu headaches.
