Land Rover Repair: Will not start when cold, 1998 Range Rover, spark plug wires, servo motor

Question
I have a 1998 range rover and when it get cold outside, it will turn but not catch. If I keep it in the garage, it will crank just fine. It did the same thing last winter and I replaced the starter and it was fine, for a while. It is doing the same thing and getting worse. It only happens when it is cold outside.

Also, the air conditioner will only blow cold on the passenger side of the truck. Freon has been added, but it still only blow cold on that side. Is it going to need replacing?

Thanks,
Cortelius

Cortelius,

Here is a portion of an article I read a few months ago, basically it discusses common AC problems:

"If your system is adjustable on one side, but not the other – meaning one side is stuck on hot, cold, or somewhere in between you probably have a bad servo motor set. Land Rover sells these servos in sets of three (left, right, and center blend). A VERY resourceful owner could replace these items at home, but most people will do better to find a specialist. This repair takes most of a day to complete."

Could be something to consider.

Hi Cortelius,

when troubled with cold engine starts, here are the usual suspects:

battery problems - weak, plate faults, loose connections;
ignition timing incorrect;
spark plugs fouled or worn, spark plug wires worn;
coilpack fault;
fuel injection faults;
low cylinder compressions;

As for the AC not working on both sides, it could be a blockage, a problem within the control unit switch, blower motor.

Best of luck,
