Land Rover Repair: Transmission mode lights, auto parts shop, obdii connector

Question
The transmission mode, (s)and(m) lights are both flashing on dash. 2000 Discovery, have you seen this before? Thanks

Answer
Hi Jim,

it is possible that you are having a gearbox problem.  There are several codes associated with sport and manual lights flashing:  you could be having TTC problems, there could be a short in the shifter solenoid, and a few more I am not familiar with but do exist.

Your 2000 Disco has a OBDII connector.  I would go to a local auto parts shop and ask if they could attach a OBDII reader to your Disco.  Get the problem code(s) and they will determine which area you are having the problem with.  This same auto parts shop should be able to tell you the code translation.  I found that Advance Auto is very generous in helping its clients.  Otherwise, you'll have to find a mechanic that is familiar with LR codes and then go from there.  A LR dealer would do this for you but I doubt they'd do it for free.  Too bad.

So, to answer your question, yes these problem you describe exists and its LR's way of drawing you attention to the OBDII codes and an existing problem on your Disco.

I hope it is not a serious problem,

JohnMc
