Mazda Repair: Mazda RX 7 GT starting problem, mazda rx 7, fuel pump relay

Question
Mazda RX 7 GT . rotary Wankel engine , Manual 5speed.
When I start it cold , generally it starts . by just turning the key without pressing the gas pedal. The  problem occurs after  driving long enough for the  engine  to become  hot and I stop for a short while  (at a store) and consequently I cannot start the engine, - It cranks but does not fire up.  tried pumping pedal , and full depressed ,  no luck . I smelled no gas  , so I think it was not flooded . (maybe fuel pump)
Finally with luck, after a rather long push and a slight downhill stretch, I was able to compression start , and to get home .  This has happened before.
I will add, that on this same day I had driven the car and parked it for several hours , then started successfully, and drove (for a very short distance 1 mile)to lunch , parked for a half hour, and was able to start the car and again  after work I started it again  . I guess the problem exists mainly when the engine is hot .
Think you for any advice

Answer
Next time it happens, their is a yellow connector on the right hand side of the steering column under the dash. It is plugged into the fuel pump relay. Unplug it and turn it over. I am almost positive it will start and die. Then, plug it back in and start it up. It sounds like you are flooding it; you cannot unflood a Wankle rotary without cranking it over without fuel. It will not unflood itself.
Try letting it warm up before you drive it. If you do not fully warm it up before driving it, it will flood itself during the cold enrichment period of the warm up sequence.
You are not the first person to experience this problem; it can cause engine failure if allowed to go on. So, be careful how you drive it.
