Mercedes Benz repair: wont start 1983 380SEL, mercedes sel, fuel pump relay

i have an 83 mercedes sel with 162k on it..ran great untill my wife drove it..now it wont start..turns over but wont start..she says he didnt run out of gas,but i think she did..i put gas in..it starts when you spray starting fluid in carb..then stalls..can you tell me what to check for..thanks

Add several gallons of fuel to the tank, the gauge can fail.

#1. Check the fuel pump is running, at the right rear near your axle shaft, hold the pump while someone cranks the engine, it should buzz/hum against your hand.

#2. Replace the fuse in the top of your Overload Relay (under the hood between the bulkheads), and try starting the engine.

#3. Hold the Fuel Pump Relay while someone cranks the engine, you should feel it clack to pass power to your pump.
