Mercedes Benz repair: install a/c low rpm sensor, mercedes benz 190e, 1985 mercedes benz 190e

Question
Is there any way to install the RPM sensor on the air cond. compressor
of my Mercedes 1985 190 2.3. Pulling the comp. and replacing
the sensor which is on the back of the comp. is only solution I
have heard. This is a $1000 + job. It is obviously a very
congested area there and if on the bench it is very simple, but
WOW the price is scary.
Thanks for any ideas on this. Yes, my MBZ mechanic has
checked all the system. The last guy tried to fix it by a direct
connection so A/C came on when car was switched on and it ran
all the time. Sure did cool, but?

There is no shortcut that I know of.
I would replace the compressor, it is not worth replacing the sensor.
