Mitsubishi Repair: instrument cluster not responding, eclipse gsx, steering colum

Question
I have a 1993 Eclipse gsx, i picked this car up for free, and i am starting to see why.  I can not get the instrument cluster to respond.  The speedo works but no others do.  All the instrument lights work fine.  Please let me know what more info you need so i can supply pertinent info.

Also this vehicle has had a kill switch installed for racing by a pervious owner(who that was has been lost in the wind) so i don't know if this is a possible Coulpret.

As far as i know about it is all it is doing is interrupting power at the battery, but in no sure.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Answer
John: There is a electrical connectors behind the dash, it has four plugs that plug into the instrument cluster, and then the other end of this electrical connectors has two plugs that would either go through the fire wall into the engine area or plugs into something through the fire wall into the power there. Could be the plugs that control the lighting in the instrument cluster is still pluged in but the one that controls the instrument cluster has been unpluged or if the car was used to race maybe it came unpluged. You will either have to lay on your back, with a strong flashlight, head in the floorboards and look up under the dash kind of under and up too, to see if all the wires are plugged in as they should be. Could be when they put that kill switch in they unplugged things they shouldn't have. Then the last thing is that you might have a short too again for the same reason as someone kind of rewired things to add the switch. There is a lot of wires that come into the steering colum from through the front driver's side fender and then back into the engine. What you need to do is go to a parts store and buy a repair manual for this car. They cost around $20.00 and well worth the money. It would walk you through things to check, if a short than you will need that repair manual and a voltmeter to find that short, as the repair manual would give you the right readings for the voltmeter. Oh yes the speedo works on a cable not any power there, so if the wiring had been changed it would not bother the speedo or its cable. I hope this helps and God bless: Linda
