Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi 3000GTSL Shifter Automatic, loose bolts, shift lever

Question
"I have a 1993 3000GTSL with Automatic Transmission. This second Trans has 25,000 miles on it. Just recently the Shift handle has become loose no matter what position it is in P-R-N-D-1-2. You can literally shake the handle around. It used to be very tight. Any ideas on why and what might need to be done. Or will it be OK like it is?

Thanks,

:-)

Jim"

Answer
Jim,
This may be as simple as a worn bushing, bolt, or washer that holds the shift lever to the base.  You can have any mechanic go in and tighten up and loose bolts or replace any bushings or washers that need to replaced.  But if you can get a hold of a service manual, this may be a job you can do yourself.  It will require some disassembly of your center console area.  But if you prefer a mechanic do this, they should be able to take care of your problem fairly easy.
Good luck!
