car died on freeway with burning plastic smell in cabin but not in engine compartment. fluids ok. starter cranks the engine with normal sound but not a hint of start...?fuel or electrical but why is the burning smell INSIDE the car

David: I would say your computer died. You know don't you that the computers in these cars have a piece on them that will start to leak and with time will kill off the computer. The burning plastic smell is the computer burning it's self up. You can of course have the car coded, AutoZone will do it for free. And that would rule out any problem with the computer or the sensors. But I put my bet on that computer. You should also get yourself a repair manual, Chilton or Haynes they would explain where your car's computer is and then as you get back to it. I believe that plastic smell will get stronger. Because the computer is INSIDE the car. I do hope this helps and good luck! Linda :o)
