Mitsubishi Repair: Exhaust leak, crossover pipe, excessive strain

Question
I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Diamanti.  There is a crossover pipe between the engine and the firewall.  It was leaking and I replaced it.  It is now leaking again.  It appears as though it is a "relief" of sorts and it is designed to release exhaust in the event of a blockage.  My question is what might be blocked and how would I rectify the problem so the "crossover" doesn't fail again?  Please help.

Answer
Richard,
I guess I'd actually have to see it to understand exactly what you're referring to.  The exhaust pipe that connects to your catalytic converter has two downpipes on it.  These downpipes connect to the exhaust manifolds that connect to the engine cylinder head.  What you may be looking at is the exhaust manifold EGR pipe.  These pipe does look like it has a "relief" section with an accordion appearance.  This section is to allow it to expand and contract as the engine warms and cools.  If this is the "crossover" you're referring to, there's nothing special you should have to do to prevent it from failing again.  But if you have bad engine mounts, it may be putting excessive strain on the that pipe; causing it to fail prematurely.  You may want to have your mounts checked.
Good luck!
