Mitsubishi Repair: 97 mitsubishi galant ES automatic-blowing my fuse, cold air intake, mitsubishi galant

Question
I keep blowing my fuse when I use the turn signals and/or when
I use the window defroster.. I've changed the fuse in the car and
under the hood; I usually blow one of them or if not both. I think
I have a short but I'm not sure where to start looking. It's a 10a
fuse... also, I was thinking about adding a"cold air intake valve"
to the car; I haven't looked into it yet but I was wondering if you
knew the plusses and minuses of doing this to the car. Thanks.

Answer
William,
Check the rear window defroster lines in your rear window.  There may be a short there.  The turn signal wires in your steering wheel column may be where the short is located.  If you have a voltmeter, and feel comfortable checking the wiring in your car, that is the best way to find a short.  Other than that, you'll want a technician to find the short for you.  The electronics and wiring in a modern car like yours can get quite confusing; especially if your car is equiped with any kind of alarm system, ABS, and/or air bags.

Cold Air Intakes (CAI) are usually good for adding a few additional horsepower to your car.  If your car is about 140 horsepower, you may see 145 horsepower after the CAI is installed.  So, a few extra horsepower is a plus.  A few minuses are that your gas mileage may decrease, your engine will sound noiser, in some states it may violate an environment regulation (mainly in California), your idle setting may get thrown off and have to be adjusted, and a few extra horsepower may not be worth the cost in spending the money.  But if you're looking to do additional modifications in the furture with your car (like large exhaust, etc...), then a CAI is a good place to start.
Good luck!
