QUESTION: Thanks so far,
It is a 74 FXE, Superglide  1200
I did not add the year and so on, I figured you would be able to tell the diff no matter what the year.
But if I knew, I would not be asking, so that is why I asked you hahaha  I do not know if anyone has made updates/ changes so just saying they are stock will do us no good.
That is why I asked how to tell the diff.  Thank You

Answer
As harleys got newer the hydraulic changed, that is why I asked. The 74 FXE came with hydraulic lifters stock. You would have to remove a lifter to see if its solid or not. The shovel hydraulic lifter will have a spring below the cap. You best bet is to look at a picture of one. You can go to  http://www.vtwinmfg.com/  Then click guest. Go to search and type in
10-0277. You will see a pic of a hydraulic unit. If you go to 10-0450 that is a solid. As you can see the adjuster for the solid is on the tappet. On the hydraulic its on the pushrod
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
