Motorcycle Repair: 1988 flt. oilpump removal, drive shaft, oil pump

tried to remove oil pump in bike.acording to manual i have.bolts @top of pump cover are about 1/4" to long.do i have to pull motor to servics oil pump? tride every thing but 2 top oil pump cover bolts hit trany case. would it be possibel to cut the bolt & replace w/shorter. also would the pump drive shaft come out. thak you dave

To remove the shaft you have to remove the cam cover. The outer cover should come off, unless its a aftermarket cover. The back part of the cover, where the bolts go thru, should have cutouts in then for the bolts to slip through. If you still cant get them out you will have to cut them.
