Motorcycle Repair: 2000 sportster clutch cable replacement, clutch cable, clutch lever

Question
QUESTION: hi MIKE
just wondering how to get the cable out of gear box shift lever.
   thanks GARY

ANSWER: You first have to shorten the cable with the cable adjuster. It is located under a rubber boot in the cable. Once you have that done, there is a pin going through the clutch lever. On the underside of the pin is a clip. Remove the clip and the pin and the lever will slide out

QUESTION: hi mike
thanks for responding.
i would like to know if you have take the left side engine cover off to get the clutch cable unhooked from primary link.

Answer
If you are removeing the cable then you have to remove the primary cover. To remove it you need to remove the back cover on the primary cover. Behind it there is a spring, a locking nut and then the adjuster nut. remove the adjuster nut by turning the adjuster screw in the center of it. Now the primary cover will come off. You will see the cable in the primary cover. Put it back together in reverse.
