Motorcycle Repair: 1987 Honda VT700C Shadow, pulse generators, jim christensen

Question
The ignition pulse generators .One of them reads 436 ohms cold. And then other reads 429 ohms cold. The clymer manual says 450 to 550 at 68 degrees F.Well my bike wont start to warm them up so do the think that my pulse generators are good to use?  Thank You Jim Christensen

Answer
I doubt it's the pulse generators.  It would be pretty unusual for both to fail at the same time with the same resistance.  Have you pulled the plugs and check to see if the plugs are firing.  Put the plugs back in the caps and lay them on the head and then crank the engine over.  If you see a health blue spark, the pulse generators are fine. If you don't see a spark, it could be the coils or the spark boxes.  Check the voltage at the coils to make sure the black and white wire has 12 volts to it.
