Motorcycle Repair: CB900C Idles to fast, set pilot, adjustment screw

Question
Have an 82 CB900C that runs like a scalded rabbit at speed.  Bike has 16k miles.  It sat for a number of years so I rebuilt the carbs completely, have dynamic checked the timing (right on spec).  Set pilot screws 2 turns out (per the manual).
Problems are two;  It is difficult to start when cold and once it warms up it wants to idle between 1500 and 2000 rpm.  Idle adjustment screw (black knob) doesn't have any affect.  Seems like it takes a little longer for the #1 exhaust pipe to get hot than the other three.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
Sorry, for taking so long to get to this answer, but I've been out of town.

Jim, it sounds like an air leak.  The hard starting indictes that it's not getting the fuel enrichment it needs to start cold.  The cold pipe on number one would be a good place to start looking.  Look for a loose or overly tight clamp on the intake.
