Motorcycle Repair: Virago 535 Starting Problem, classic bikes, exaust pipe

Question
Hi Jerry, I have had problems with this 1993 535 Virago since the very first day i bought it. The running of the bike after 90k's would start to cause grief and upon inspection i found that the rear sparkplug was always going black with soot, this soot i also noticed on the rear of the exaust pipe, the front plug seemed fine. Then all of a sudden it developed what i call sneezing, the bike would start and sort of sneeze during the warm up idle period and once warm it would backfire on down gearing. We had a bought of rain for 3 weeks here in Sydney and after it stopped i decided to take the bike out, it started first go, still had the sneeze but after warmed up i didnt notice anything different. Last week i went to go for a cruise and the bike would not start, so out came the plugs, rear one black as usual, but this time the front one was wet with fuel, so i just bought 2 new ones and then went to start it, still would not start, only now, the bike does a little wind and then there is this clicking sound like a machine gun coming from under the right hand plastic cover, never had this sound before, so thats all its doing, i get a bit of a start wind and then this stops and is replaced by that fast vibrating clicking sound. I tried to take my bike to a shop, the guy down the end of my street has and sells classic bikes and my bike being a 1993 model is too new for him. So i phoned my local Yamaha dealer and he says the bike is too old and they dont work on bikes older than 10 years. So here i am scouring the net night after night trying to find out if someone else has had this problem and what i have to do to fix it as trying to find a shop to take it too, nobody is interested, meanwhile my pride and joy just sits out in the backyard under 2 motorcycle covers and a tarp. If i could find out what this clicking sound is after the half wind maybe i could replace that at least i could get it going and then try to find someone out there who could service it properley. Sorry this is quite long but i dont have any options...

Answer
The starting problem is the plugs. The reason is that the main jet needle in the slide has worn the seat or the thing it goes into egg shaped. This will give you excess fuel causing the plugs to fowl.Viberation is the culprit here Also the end if the plug wire that goes on the plug will unscrew unscrew it and make sure the wire isn't burned back into the insolation. If so clip a little off the end of the wire and reinstall the plug cap.
