Motorcycle Repair: KDX 200 smoking problem, head bolts, kdx 200

Question
I have a 1996 KDX 200 it sat at the beach for a few years the owner rode infrequently.  I've had the cylinder resleeved to stock, new piston and rings, replaced the crank seals and bearings, with gaskets all-round.  The piston has an arrow marking on top which is supossed to point to the exaust port, right?  The bike started up after reassembly second kick a little smoke was seen attributed it to break-in.  The smoke as it warmed up got increasingly heavier in density with a white color and all the gaskets are new keep all head bolts were torqued to spec's 13ft lbs.  The bike starts to lower it's idle and dies after a little rev.  It's like the smoke or fuel chokes it out.  Is his a carb problem and how do I fix it I'm very machanically inclined and would like to do it myself.  Thanks

Answer
Very familiar with this bike. Awesome machine. White smoke could be antifreeze/water. Check plug to see if it's wet with water or antifreeze. Also could check that your KIPS valve was installed properly. I recommend you do a leakdown test/compression test according to the manual first. Easy to do and costs you nothing but time. May give you some insight to what is going on inside.
