Motorcycle Repair: harley sportser 1978 clutch cable adjustment, clutch cable, locknut

Question
I recently bought a 1978 sportster - clutch cable was broken - when replaced cannot get it adjusted to where it will catch      bike was up and running prior to clutch cable being broken           I have never worked on a harley before and dont have the slightest idea how to fix this seemingly minor problem

Answer
First thing you need to do is adjust he clutch itself before doing the cable. remove the clutch cover on the primary cover. In the center you will see a locknut and a screw. lossen the locknut and turn the screw inward just until it touches. Tighten the locknut. Now adjust the cable. Make sure the cable is slid all the way inward so that the arm inside is all the way back.
Good luck and happy riding
