Motorcycle Repair: electrical, ground connections, safety switch

Question
Hi Mark,
The diode in my 1991 Suzuki GSXR750 burned up. Actually, it was so hot, it melted. The melted diode is connected to the Green wire. I am afraid to replace it diode without knowing what caused the melting of the diode. (I wired up two individaul high current diodes face-to-face together to check it out. The diode connected to the green wire is fairly hot.)

I traced the green wire on the wiring diagram. It looks like is a part of kickstand switch or relay.

Any idea what is going on? What should I be looking for? And where can I locate them on the bike? Could you help? thank you for your suggestions.

Answer
Hi W. Ma,

I'm not sure what you're doing with the diodes. Can you be more specific?

Reference the Green wire, if its part of the side-stand safety switch, try eliminating it from the circuit (disconnect the switch and re-connect the harness side wires together.)

It critical to have clean tight ground connections.
