Nissan Repair: 2003 Nissan Maxima Driver Window Inop, 2003 nissan maxima, nissan maxima

Question
Driver door window has stopped working in a partially open position. How can I diagnose a possible repair or is there a way I can get the glass in the up/closed position? Just prior to stopping working the motor sounded as if it was struggling.

Answer
Hi Joe -

The motor is accessed by removing the door panel. You will not have much clearance to work, so be careful.

Once you get the panel off, reconnect the window switch, turn the ignition on, and have someone operate the window while you check the wires that goes to the motor with a test light (12V probe type). If there is power to the motor, then the motor is bad and needs replacement.

If there is no power, I would look at the switch, but I doubt if that is the case since you heard the motor running.

Also check the window track for binding.

To get the window up, again, have someone operate the switch while you grasp both faces of the window and "help" it up the track. You must have power to the motor while doing this. The other way to get the window up is to remove the motor from the track, raise the window, and replace the motor. This is much more cumbersome, so hopefully methid 1 will do the trick.

Hope this helps -
